This paper is about the turnover of fine roots in the secondary oak forest of Kongqing hill in the south of Jiangsu province. The results showed that annual turnover of fine foots in the secondary oak forest was 0.37. The biomass of living and dead fine roots of the stand was 16809.17kg/hm 2and 3273.04kg/hm 2 respectively. The annual production of the fine roots was 6192.43kg/hm 2·a,which was about 47% of total net productivity aboveground, and annual mortality was 4302.31kg/hm 2, corresponding to 45% of annual litter aboveground. So the fine roots played an important role in returning nutrients to soil, they should be payed attention to studying the litter and nutrient cycling in forest ecosystem.
