Filial Piety in Traditional Chinese Relationship of Father and Son

中国传统父子关系的核心准则——"孝"隐含着父子关系的冲突和隔阂,不平等与沟通不畅,情感表达的形式化和功利化等问题,而现代社会中的"孝"受到了独生子女政策、个人主义价值观的影响,其约束力有所下降,父子关系更加民主平等。

The paper discusses the cultural meaning and criteria of filial piety,which is the primary principle in the traditional Chinese relationship of father and son.Then it points out that the filial piety in the traditional culture has brought out four problems between father and son,i.e.conflicts and barriers,inequality and generation gap,formalization of emotional expression as well as decline of utilitarianism.However,the filial piety in the contemporary society is affected by the one-child policy and the value of individualism,its constraint power has declined and the relationship of father and son is becoming more democratic and equal.
