Abstract A rock mass balance and lost stabilization dynamic process caused by direct roof and main roof after roof broken during the advancing period of the full mechanized coal caving face was analyzed and discussed in this paper. A study on strata behavior features of the surrounding rock deformation in the coal face and gateway caused by the balance and lost stabilization features from the roof structure formation is favorable to the development of the face surrounding rock control technology. With several year site practice and theoretical analysis, the roof structure formation and influence parameters caused from the coal caving face was discussed and analyzed, including the calculation of direct roof thickness and possible structure map, and the main roof broken sharp. In the end of the paper, the roof structure affected to the relationship between the support and surrounding rock was discussed. The roof structure can provide a very good method for an rational selection of the support.
