The Emergence of Indian Islamic Nationalism

This essay analyzes why the Islamic nationalism could rise in India. There are five reasons underlying the rise. Firstly, Indian Muslims were absent from the imagination of Indian nationalism. Secondly, Indian Muslims constructed their own education pilgrimage. Thirdly, there existed huge clash of religion and culture between Indian Muslims and Hindus. Fourthly, there was serious conflict of interests between Indian Muslims and Hindus. Last but not least, the rise of In- dian Islamic nationalism was also influenced by Britain＇ s ＂Divide and Rule＂ policy. The combination of all these factors bred the imagination of Indian Islamic na- tionalism in Indian Muslim.
