摘要
Deng Zhenglai's seminal project China's Legal Science: Where Is It Heading'?. has been a focus of academic criticisms and attracted many discussions from various perspectives and of varying levels of depths, which mostly concentrate on the paradigm of modernization. With Alexander Pope's "a little learning is a dangerous thing" as my admonition and the staunch perception that a critical mind can only evince itself in a complete and thorough understanding, my review, instead of either finding fault with or singing praises of Deng's work, makes a critical examination of some of the internal logic and theoretical foundation of the argumentation in his project.
