The Development of Irrigating Farming of the Hexi Corridor in the West Han Dynasty and Its Impact on Ecological Environment

河西走廊的大规模开发始于汉武帝时代,政府通过移民实边、设置郡县、军事屯田、兴修水利等措施,使河西走廊灌溉农业得到长足的发展。但是在开发的同时,由于不合理的开垦,造成了当地生态环境的破坏。为此,在当今的开发中应该遵循河西地区生态环境的自然规律,使开发程度与环境承载力相协调,走可持续发展的道路。

rge scale development of the Hexi Corrido began in the time of Emperor Han Wudi.Through immigranting many people to the frontier,setting up prefectures and counties,military opening-up of wasteland,building irrigation projects etc,the government effected great development of the economy of irrtigating farming of the Hexi Corridor.While developing,however,unreasonable cultivation resulted in destruction of the local ecological environment and desertification of land.Therefore,in current development,natural laws of the ecological environment of Hexi area should be followed,so as to make development and environmental bearing capacity coordinate and carry out sustainable development.
