This paper introduces a design method of the structure finite life——nominal stress method.General steps of the nominal stress finite life design method are described and some key problems of the design method such as simplified treatment of stress spectrum and prediction of fatigue life etc.are introduced in detail.Finite life design formula under variable amplitude loading is deduced according to linear cumulative damage rule and stress-life curve.Finally the superiority of this method is showed by the numerical example.
