Research on a New Architecture for Distributed Multimedia Systems Based on Desk Area Network

桌域网是一种适合于分布式多媒体业务需要的小型网络，它代表了分布式多媒体系统的一种新体系。本文着重介绍桌域网的基本思想，研究它的设计目标和原则，给出桌域网的体系结构及其用户设备与性能；最后指出桌域网的应用前景。

Desk Area Network (DAN) is a small local system based on ATM switch, which is suitable for multimedia traffic. It represents a new network architecture for Distributed Multimedia Systems . The primary idea of DAN design is introduced in this paper. Several kinds of DAN are illustrated. Finally, we present our proposals from DAN prospect.
