Focal Adjustments and Image-encoding——A Contrastive Analysis of Three English Translated Versions of Ru Meng Ling

以意象理论和焦点透视理论为基础,分析古典诗词《如梦令》的三种英译文在拥有相同的意象条件下,不同的译者在进行意象编码时所表现出的不同的选择、视角、详细程度和图形背景突显,从中发现不同的译者在意象编码过程中,由于焦点调整的不同对诗词原文有不同的忠实度。

Based on the similar images, this paper aims to make a contrastive analysis of Three English Translated Versions of Ru Meng Ling from the theory of image by Langaeker, R.W. and focal adjustments. This study shows that different translators have different selection, perspective, specificity and salience in the process of image-encoding, and displays different faithfulness to the original poetry. This study can contribute to the appreciation and research of the ancient poetry.
