The Implications of Frame Theory to the Translation of Chinese Ancient Poems into English

框架理论认为,语言的意义和文化内涵存在于认知框架内,语言形式只是激活框架的符号。因此,古诗英译的关键是找到适当的英语符号,在目标语言中激活与原语相同或大致相同的框架,引出诗歌中隐含的意义,从而使目标读者也能体会诗歌的言外之意。

Frame theory believes that meanings and cultural connotations of language exist in frames, and linguistic expressions are only symbols used to activate the frames.Therefore, the key to the translation of Chinese ancient poems into English is to seek the relevant English expressions that can activate the frames in the target language similar to those of the source language. Only in this way can the implicit meanings and connotations in the poems be understood by the target readers. Frame, the nature and strategies of the translation of Chinese ancient poems into English are the foci of the study herein.
