以“性”（sexuality）和“老年人”（olderadults）这两个术语为关键词在英国医学杂志（BMJ）的资料库中进行快速搜索，发现过去10年间在本杂志上曾经刊登过一篇相关的研究报告和一篇述评。如果使用“性活动（sexualactivity）”和“老年的（elderly）”这两个术语，则会弹出另外两个与妇产科学和流行病学研究课题相关的搜索结果。
