Motivations for Su Mansu's Translation of Les Misérables

译者的翻译动机是翻译主体因素的重要组成部分。译者出于什么目的进行翻译,这就是翻译的动机。本文从动机论出发,从内在要求、外在诱因、中介调节三个方面来分析了苏曼殊为什么选择《惨世界》作为自己翻译的初次体验,有利于我们进一步了解翻译动机对译者的操控。

The translator＇s motive is a main factor of the translation subjectivity and refers to the reason for him to translate. With reference to the theory of motivation, this paper analyses why Su Manshu selected Hugo＇s Les Miserables as his first translation works from the following three aspects： internal demands, external inducements and self- regulation to help us deepen the understanding of the manipulation of translation motive over the translator.
