The subject of advanced Japanese is one of the key components in the teaching syllabus designed for undergraduate Japanese majors. The aim of this subject is to deepen the understanding of the Japanese society through the reading of Japanese articles on Japanese history and literature. This paper attempts to discuss the problems arising from the teaching of advanced Japanese in order to enhance the teaching quality of it.
