The Symbolic Significance of Non-verbal Communication of The Book of Rites

《礼记》对非语言交际行为的关注是儒家经典中少有的,并且非常重视这种行为所携带的符号意义在社交活动中的作用。可见,当时的人已经认识到非语言交际行为与精神活动、社会活动的关系。通过从四个方面分析《礼记》所表现出的当时社会条件下的非语言交际行为的符号性质,进而说明《礼记》独特的语用意义。

The Book of Rites is very much concerned about the non-verbal communicative behaviors,which is rarely seen in other Confucian classics.And it attaches great importance to the effects of the symbolic significance such behaviors carry in social activities.It can be seen that people at that time had recognized the relationship between the non-verbal behavior and mental activities as well as social activities.This paper analyses the symbolic characteristics and natures of the non-verbal communicative behaviors under the social conditions at that time from four aspects so as to explain the unique pragmatic significance of The Book of Rites.
