Montage of a Dream：The Art and Life of Langston Hughes is ＂the smartest collection of work on Hughes to appear in many a year＂.From multiple sources and perspectives,the collection,among other things,offers fresh information on Hughes＇s literary creation and personal experiences—both as ＂the People＇s Poet＂ and as a flesh-and-blood man.Briefly introducing several representative essays in the collection,this review chooses to center round Hughes＇s favorite image of ＂a dream＂,sum up its multivalent connotations in the given contexts of the collection,and thereby induce its open-ended process of initiation,continuation,and revitalization so as to highlight the relevance between his artistic vision and today＇s literary world.
