Zen and the Poem——A Brief Discussion over Zen's Influence on Poetry of Tang and Song Dynasty

禅宗对唐宋诗歌的影响是多方面的。一是禅宗的空观,使诗人形成空寂闲淡的创作心态;二是习禅之风的盛行,出现许多有关佛禅题材内容的诗篇;三是禅的"不立文字""直觉顿悟"的思维方式,使诗歌创作中也呈现出"不著一字""直觉观照"的思维方式;四是在禅的影响下,诗歌在审美情趣上,创造出空明灵幻的境界,并富有禅趣,禅理。

Zen Buddhism influences poetry of Tang and Song Dynasty in several aspects.First,its view on outward appearance gives the poets an aloof and idle psychology in poem writing.Second,the vogue of practising Zen leaves a lot of buddihism-themed poems.Third,the thinking mode of＂making without language and insight by intuition＂in Zen gets its counterpart in poem writing——＂few words yet full presentation and intuitive perception＂.Fourth,owing to Zen,the esthetic pursue in these very poems is creating a flexible yet unpredictable realm which is full of Zen logic and Zen themes.
