On the E-C Translation of Film Titles from the Functionalist Translation Theory

文章探讨功能翻译理论观照下的英文电影片名的汉译,认为不能过分强调目的论,应当考虑篇际和篇内连贯以及诺德的功能加忠诚原则。作者认为电影片名是操作型文本,要实现英文电影片名汉译的目的,译者可以把电影汉语译名的信息功能、表情功能和感染功能看作翻译纲要,这可以给译者直接明确的指导。同时,译者在翻译时应当以目标语对象(中国观众)为中心,尽量到考虑到中国观众的文化背景、心理预期和接受能力。

This paper explores the translation of film titles from English to Chinese from the perspective of the Functionalist Translation Theory.The author believes that the Skopoes rule should not be overstressed.The Coherence Rule and the Fidelity Rule and the rule of function plus loyalty should be taken into consideration.The translators should view the information function,the expressive function and the appellative function of film titles as the Translation Brief,which will provide the translators with a direct and explicit guidance.Moreover,the translators should focus on the target language and the target audience.They are not totally free because they are restrained by the loyalty principle.They should take care of Chinese audience＇s culture-specific world-knowledge,their expectations and their communicative needs.
