Language Universals,Language Typology and Contrastive Linguistics:Reflections on the Theoretical Resources and Aim of Contrastive Studies

摘要语言的共性研究、类型学研究和对比研究是三种不同类型的语言学研究,然而这三者之间又有着密切的联系。根据国内外研究的一些新趋势、新进展和新观点,本文首先分别讨论语言共性研究和语言类型学研究的基本性质和特点及其与对比研究的关系。我们认为,语言共性研究是语言对比研究的理论源泉和基本目的之一,而语言类型学研究则为语言对比研究提供了基本的对比分析框架。在此基础上,我们提出了对比研究的一般研究路径和方法。 This paper examines the relationship between the three closely related and yet different types of linguistic studies-- the study of language universals, the study of language typology, and contrastive linguistics. Drawing on recent advances in the three fields, we argue that studies on language typology can provide contrastive linguists with a set of important research questions and analytical frameworks, and the ultimate aim of （theoretical） contrastive hnguisties is to contribute to the achievement of the common goal of general linguistics, viz. to discover the general properties languages share and the ways languages can differ from each other. Based on this observation, a general roadmap for carrying out contrastive studies is sketched out.
