The style evolution of flat embroidery from Painting Embroidery in Song Dynasty,to Gu Embroidery,to the Four Brand Embroidery leading by Su Embroidery in Qing Dynasty and then to Emulation Embroidery in the late Qing Dynasty,is reviewed and the causes for the evolution are explored in the expectation to provide references for the protection and development of flat embroidery as intangible cultural heritage.
