休谟把美视为主观性的存在,艺术美不过是鉴赏者心中一种快乐的感受。但是艺术美的存在与艺术品本身又存在密切联系,对于规则的应用,对于自然的表述,对于材料的整合,对于创作者内心感受的物化都能够影响到鉴赏者的情感。鉴赏力有精致与粗俗之分,蕴涵于艺术品中一般性的美能不能被体验,与鉴赏者的气质和主观意向有关。

David Hume takes beauty as the existence of subjectivity.Appreciation of artistic beauty is nothing but a pleasure to the hearts of those who feel.However,the existence of artistic beauty is in close contact with the works of art itself.Such factors as the application of the rules,the expression of nature,the integration of material,the materialization of the inner feelings of the composer,all these can affect the emotions of the appreciator.Appreciation can be fine and vulgar.Whether the beauty in the general works of art can be experienced is related to the temperament and the subjective intent of the appreciator.
