From the perspective of consumer culture,this essay analyzes the cultural characteristics of parochialism and materialism in Lewis’s Main Street,and reveals one of the most important causes which has been greatly neglected in existing criticism： it is the parochial grade,class and racial prejudices hidden in the conspicuous consumption of Main Street that nourish their narrow provincialism and materialism.
