摘要
传教士的到来使中国人认识了西方世界。在中国的教会英语教学大规模开展以前,中西间存在较大的隔阂和误解。教会学校英语教学是外国传教士结合中国国情,针对中国学生开展的英语教学。它促进了中国教育的发展乃至中国的近代化,在中西文化交流中起到了重要的作用。探讨教会学校的英语教学图式对于当今的中西文化交流具有重要的借鉴意义。
The Chinese began to know the true Western world only after the Western missionaries arrived in China. There were serious misunderstandings and estrangement between China and the West before the extensive English teaching in the missionary colleges in China. The English teaching in the missionary colleges was a successful one because it suited the actual situations in China, which promoted the education development and even the modernization in China and played an important role in the cultural exchanges between China and the West. Thus, the study of the English--teaching schema in the missionary colleges will shed much light on the further cultural exchanges between China and the West.
