Since Dr. Charles K Kao received 2009 year Nobel Prizes in Physics from the Swedish King half a year ago, recent months have been exciting time for the family of optical fiber communications. During the OFC annual meeting in April 2010, an unconventional celebration party was held for Charles Kao upon his presence. It was also at that time China Communications invited me to be the guest editor for organizing a special issue of ＂Optical Fiber Communications＂. I accepted with great pleasure.
