摘要
be sure of与be sure to结构的区别远远不止于of与to的不同。运用对比的方法,以前者为衬托,对be sure to结构的语义、句法和语用特征进行详细的分析,考察be sure to结构中主语为"他人主体"对该结构的句法和语用的影响和限制,最后说明Oxford词典中对该结构的定义的真实含义。
The difference between the two constructions of be sure of and be sure to is larger than the difference reflected by the two words of and to.This paper conducts a careful analysis of the semantic,syntactic and pragmatic features of be sure to with be sure of as a contrastive background,investigating the effects and restrictions on the construction of be sure to when its subject is other than the speaker himself,and finally the paper attempts at an explanation of the true meaning of the dictionary definition to the construction given by Shorter Oxford English Dictionary.
