Reflections on the Orient as "the Other"

作为当下中西文化交流中某些问题的投射,萨义德东方学中的学术发现和相应困难尤需要得到深刻反思,东方作为小写他者所带来的客体化、同质化、差异化研究倾向,以及西方作为大写他者所激发出的功利化、依附化、技术化的学术症候,都是亟需面对和解决的问题。

To resolve the problems in the cultural communication between China and the west, we should again study the discoveries made and the problems referred to in Said's theory of Orientalism. The two kinds of researching attitudes, one regarding the Orient as 'the other', which brings the objectified homogeneous and discrepantand results, and the other regarding the West as 'the Other', which brings utilitarian anaclitic and technical tendency, both requires further reflections to solve the problems occurring in the cultural communication between the two cultural systems.
