Objective To observe the efficacy of heat-clearing and blood-activating Chinese herbal medicine for the treatment of unstable angina( UA ). Methods Fifty UA inpatients were randomly divided into two groups: experimental group and control group. All the patients of two groups were given standard western medicine. Additionally, the experimental group were given the decoction of heat-clearing and blood-activating Chinese herbal medicine and the control group were given the decoction of blood-activating Chinese herbal medicine. The treatment last for two weeks. Results The efficacy on symptoms, syndrome scoring and electrocardiogram in the experimental group was similar to that in the control group. But after treatment, the plasma concentrations of C-reactive protein, fibrinogen and D - Dimer were decreased in both groups(P 〈 0.01), and the decrease was obvious in the experimental group(P 〈 0.05). Conclusion Based on the active treatment with standard western medicine, heat-clearing and blood-activating Chinese herbal medicine can effectively inhibit the inflammatory reaction, reduce blood viscosity and improve blood hypercoagulabale state, thus to protect blood vessel endothelium, stabilize coronary artery atheromatous plaque and inhibit local thrombosis, which shows potential therapeutic effect for UA.
