Typical projects of large capcacity HVDC in the world are presented. Methods of making use of their experiences and taking the specific factors into account in Japan are described. It also suggests how to solve the problem of SCR reduction and how to limit transient overvoltage. Furthermore the coordination of AC/DC system and modulating control of HVDC systems is discussed. [
