Relevance Theory in Cultural Default Translation

关联理论作为一种语言交际理论,在处理文化缺省问题上为翻译提供了理论基础。应根据不同的认知语境采用不同的策略,获得语言信息和语境的最佳关联,实现原文作者的意图和再现原文的美学特质,以满足目的语读者的期待。

As a theory of language communication,relevance theory also provides literary translation with a theoretical framework dealing with cultural default.This paper firstly expounds on and further analyzes reasons for cultural default.Based on principle of optimum relevance,this paper suggests that the translator adopt different strategies according to different cognitive context to realize purpose of original-language authors and its aesthetic value and cater to expectation of target-language readers.
