On the Logical Beauty of Syllogism

三段论作为传统逻辑的精华,不仅向人们昭示了逻辑的真理体系(即逻辑真),反映了人类从逻辑思维的角度对客观世界把握的程度,展示了人类认识的发展进程,因而具有认识论的价值;而且也向人们昭示了三段论作为人类对思维探索的结晶,蕴含了深刻而丰富的理性美,因而三段论的逻辑结构、推理形式和逻辑体系亦可作为审美对象,具有审美价值(即逻辑美),具体表现为其逻辑结构的严谨美、推理形式的简洁美和逻辑体系的和谐美。正是由于三段论集求真与审美于一体,因而它吸引了无数逻辑学家对其进行分析、研究。与此同时,被人们广泛运用于科学研究、思维论辩和日常生活,并对培养创新人才的思维品性——"理智德性",具有十分重要的德育功能(即逻辑善)。

In this paper,the author holds that the syllogism,the essence of traditional logic,not only has epistemological value（i.e.logical truth）,but also has aesthetic value（i.e.logic beauty） simultaneously.On the one hand,it not only manifates the truth system of logic,reflects human mastery degree on the objective world from the perspective of logical thinking,but also shows the development progress of human cognition,and therefor has the value of epistemology;on the other hand,the syllogism also has aesthetic value for its logical instructrue＇s rigiorous beauty,its form of reference＇s concise beauty and its logical system＇s harmonious beauty,as the logical instructrue,the form of reference and the logical system can also be viewed as aesthetic objects.And it＇s because the syllogism contains both epistemological and aesthetic value that it not only attracts countless logicians to anlyse and study,but also be widely used in scientific research,thinking debate and daily life,and thus has moral education function to the innovative talents＇ cultivation,too.
