孟子的精神气象高远、刚健而博大——如巍峨耸立的泰山,俯视天下、高瞻远瞩,纵览全局而又立意卓然;又如高山流水,滚滚而下、奔腾不息,生命力旺盛且持久;亦如汪洋大海、茫茫宇宙,有气吞山河、包裹天地之气魄。而其精神气象之根本,则是那种合德天地、浑然与万物同体的精神——"仁"。一个人拥有了这种精神,其内在生命就可以像滚滚源泉一样,生生不息。孟子的精神气象,正是今天的中国所需要的,它对于当今中国社会的可持续发展、国学研究、教育改革等问题,无疑具有深刻的指导意义。

The spiritual outlook of Mencius is vast, high and tough. It seems that he was standing on Tai-shan Mountain to overlook the world; from his life, a strong force sprang out just as a river came down the high mountain; like the sea and ocean holding all rivers, he was so deep and profound as to have the entire world in heart. The core of Mencius＇ spiritual outlook is Kindness, which integrates man, heaven and earth together. The one who has Kindness in heart will be more powerful. Today, Meneius＇ spiritual outlook is needed in China, and undoubtedly it must be of great significance as for the reform of education, the sustain- able development of China＇s current society and the studies of Chinese ancient civilization.
