The ion-nitriding and solid-boronsing layers were displayed by the color metallogrophy. The results show that the color metallography not only made the structure difference along the penetrating layer more clear, but can clearly display the complex phases at different zones of the penetrating layer as well. The principle of the coloring different phases was briefly discussed.
