作为法国社会主义运动中颇有影响力的领导人,饶勒斯对改良与革命大辩论中的改良主义,自由主义下的自由、民主等价值观以及如何看待马克思主义等提出了自己独到的见解。他的社会主义思想的全部实质就是在改良主义的旗帜下,力图将自由主义和马克思主义结合在一起,作为取代资本主义的新理论。因此,他的思想既具有传统自由主义强调的、后为民主社会主义所认可的价值观,也综合了马克思主义的阶级斗争理论,极力在社会主义远大理想和改良实践之间保持一种平衡。

As one of the influential leaders in French socialism movement, Jean Jaures has his own unique insights into the reformism of the great debate about reformist and revolutionary activists, into the liberalism under the freedom, into the democracy and other values. He also gave his poinions on how to look at Marxism. His essence of socialisism ideology was trying to combine liberalism and Marxism, as an alternative new theory to capitalism under the banner of the reformism. Therefore, his thought not only includes the values of traditional liberalism stressed and recognized by democratic socialism, but also combines the Marxist theory of class struggle, trying to maintain a balance between the socialism ideals and practice.
