A Talk on the Relationship between the Western Classical Drama and Poetry

诗歌一直是西方文学中的主流,它对其它的艺术样式都产生过不同的影响,而对戏剧的影响尤其深刻。西方古典戏剧在自己的成长发展过程中,不断接受诗歌的潜移默化、浸润滋养,不可避免地带有诗歌的艺术特色,这主要体现在西方古典戏剧的语言艺术、题材内容和叙述方式上。

Poetry has always been the mainstream of western literature. It has produced different effects on the other art forms, while the profound impact is to theater in particular, western classical drama continually had been receiving the poetry＇s nurture, infiltration and nourishment in its own process of growth and development. Inevitably western classical drama has the same artistic characteristics as poetry. These mainly reflected in the poetic language of art, subject matter and narrative modes.
