During the process of lip-reading by either deaf persons or normal persons, many regions of the human brain are activated. This article mainly reviews and analyzes foreign researches into lip-reading' s brain mechanism by fMRI. According to the findings, lip-reading activates the visual cortex, the sports cortex, the auditory cortex and the language cortex. The two cerebral hemispheres play different roles in lip-reading,according to different tasks of lip-readlng.
