In an age of environmental crisis, ecocriticism which studies the relationship between literature and the physical environment should be more widely applied than it is now. This paper intends to reread the recent three novels by Amy Tan from the perspective of ecocriticism,The Hundred Secret Senses (1995),The Bonesetter's Daughter (2001) and Saving Fish from Drowning (2005). The discussion will try to address these questions which an ecocritic would ask:How is nature represented in Tan's three works? What role does the physical setting play in the plots of her novels? Are the values expressed in these works consistent with ecological wisdom? In addition to race, class and genre, should 'place' become a new critical category? Rereading the three works by Amy Tan,the author of the paper finds that the choice of place in these three recent novels shows the novelist's strong interest in physical settings characterized by natural primitivism. In these novels Amy Tan combines the representation of nature with the reflections on values with ecological awareness and ecological wisdom.
