In this interview,John Carlos Rowe,Professor at University of Southern California,questions Hayden White's identity as a New Historicist and on the basis of analyzing Greenblatt's practice,points out that the problem of New Historicism lies in its lack of a dimension of utopia. He also discusses the relationship between the writing of literary history and literary studies.
