Impact-Response Mode and China-Centered View: On Several Problems in Discovering History in China

美国学者柯文《在中国发现历史》一书中有关批驳冲击—回应模式的论述,从对其自身社会的反思及进一步的推演出发,否认近代西方世界与中国之间存在的重要差异,否认西方列强的侵略对近代中国所造成的冲击,对中国近代史和近代中西方关系做了背离史实的阐释,是难以成立的。其"首次相撞"等概念的使用及论述的逻辑亦存在舛误。

The American scholar Kohen＇s retort on impact-response mode in Discovery History in China： American Historical Writing on Recent Chinese Past, coming from his reflection on his living society and further analysis, denies the significant differences between modern western world and China and the impact on modern China produced by the aggression by western powers. His interpretation on Chinese modern history and modern relationship between China and the West, deviating from historical facts, does not make sense. Flaws may also be found in the use of such concept as ＂initial collision＂ and in the logic of some of his discourses.
