The Productivity Commission report found that estimated total remuneration for CEOs of the top 20 companies averaged approximately $7.2 million, or 110 times average wages. Shareholders and the public have lost confidence in executive remuneration practices. But Martin Lawrence, head of research for Australia and New Zealand at governance advisory firm RiskMetrics , takes the view that extreme pay should not be seen as the cause of bad outcomes.
