摘要
1922年前后,无论是美国社会、欧美文学界还是维拉.凯瑟的个人创作生涯,都经历了重要的转折。这一历史时期正值美国现代主义文学的鼎盛时期,也是以维拉.凯瑟为代表的文学地域主义在美国如火如荼、方兴未艾的年代。以凯瑟中期作品《教授的房子》为例,展示地域主义与现代主义的关联,以及凯瑟对传统的地域主义与现代主义二元对立的超越。
Around 1922, American society, European and American literary world and Willa Cather＇ s writing career underwent dramatic changes. This was the period when Modernism was at its prime in the United States, and also the period when literary regionalism represented by Willa Cather was a popular genre in America. By taking Willa Cather＇ s The Professor＇ s House as a case study, this article tries to reveal the connection between literary regionalism and modernism, and to demonstrate how Willa Cather transcended the traditional opposition between them.
