The Context Factors of Translating French Poetry and the Practical Translation Methods

There are some rules and methods to be followed when a French poem is translated into Chinese. This paperdiscusses the context factors when the French poems are being translated. They include socio-cultural contexts, the emotion contexts and the poetic styles of the poets. On the basis of accurate cognition of the contexts of poetry, this paper then points out four methods for translating a French poem to further its artistic quality and scientific nature. The four practical methods are direct translation, modern poetry with old forms, representation of the rhythms, and highlighting emotion while neglecting expression.
