The title complex, [Eu(DBM) 4]MPy (DBM: dibenzoylmethane; Mpy: 2 methylpyridinium), has been synthesised, and the triboluminescence for this complex was firstly observed. The photoluminescence at room temperature was studied. The spectral data showed that the Eu(Ⅲ) ion is not in site of symmetry. Some impurities may be responsible for its triboluminescent activity.
