To Analyze American Dual Policy on the Taiwan Question

20世纪60年代末、70年代初,随着中美关系的缓和,美国面临如何处理与台湾关系的问题。基于历史与现实的考虑,美国在台湾问题上采取"双轨政策",这种做法符合美国的战略和实际利益。但这仅是解释问题的一个方面。从一个新的角度来解读,就是根深蒂固于美国人思想观念中的"改造中国"的使命。概括起来,美国在台湾问题上采取"双轨政策",是其战略与实际利益以及"改造中国"使命等多种因素综合作用的产物。在这些因素交互作用的背景下,美国将会持续设法阻挠中国的统一进程。

This is a mission about China-rebuilding by U.S. rooted in American nationalism during the course of U.S.-Sino relationship. That Mission still has its root in Americans＇ idea after the foundation of new China and American support to Taiwan continues the Mission. In other words,Americans try to affect and change Taiwan in the way of U.S. democracy and freedom and then attempt to change China in the manner of Taiwan beacon in order to achieve the aim of China-rebuilding. American policy toward Taiwan is the result of that belief or the origin of American policy toward Taiwan is embodiment of the Mission which still works on. That is to say,the Mission never disappears between the Sino-U.S. relations because of American nationalism. In this context of comprehensive operation of American strategy and interest and the China Mission,America will persist in holding back the Chinese reunification.
