The Deviation Between Ability and Reputation:Amnesty Military Officer of the Middle Period of Northern Song Dynasty Peng Sun

彭孙,北宋福建汀州人,历经仁宗、英宗、神宗、哲宗四朝。青年时期的彭孙协助官府平定叛乱因封赏不公而沦为盗贼,后率众为宋朝招安。彭孙招安后屡立战功,在所其经历的战争中表现勇猛,逐步由一名普通武官升至路级钤辖。但在彭孙为官过程中,宋朝其他官员多因他曾为盗贼这一经历而对其歧视,导致彭孙难以充分展现其军事才能并获得与能力相称的声望。

Peng Sun,born in Tingzhou,Fujian,experienced four reigns of Renzong,Yingzong,Shenzong,Zhezong.In his youth,he degenerated into a robber because of receiving the unjust award after he assisted the government to suppress the insurrection,and then he mobilized people for the Song amnesty.He behaved courageously in the latter battles,and promoted from a plain military officer to road-level jurisdiction.However,in the process of being an official,Peng Sun was looked down by other officials as ever being a robber,and was difficult to demonstrate his military ability,So he could not get the popularity correspondng with his ability.
