从文艺复兴时期的写实水彩画到当代的趣味性水彩画，光与影一直伴随其间。通过对西方水彩画发展历史的概述和15、16世纪的德国，18、19世纪的英国，20世纪的美国等几个时期在光影处理方面具有鲜明特点的水彩艺术大师的作品分析，研究其光影处理技巧在作品中和所在时期创作中的作用，可以探索光影运用发展的意义，感悟水彩画中的光影魅力。

Light and shade have always been good company of water color painting, either in the realistic water color paintings in Renaissance or in contemporary fun - oriented water color paintings. Based on the summary of the history of water color painting in the West and the analysis of the works of some great masters in their characteristic processing of light and shade in the 18th and 19th century Britain and the 20th century America, the present thesis studies the effect of the processing of light and shade on their works and on their creating period in the hope of exploring the significance and the charm of light and shade in water color painting.
