Proclaimed as one of the most influential postmodernist writers in America, Donald Barthelme subverts the restrained hierarchies of traditional textual writing elements, negates language's ability to construct reality and advocates the magic of literary work lies in its diversified and infinite interpretations. Not only does his fragmented textual form well embody the center--dissolving doctrine and aesthetic values of deconstruction, but also it reflects the disordered postindustrial world as well as deca- dence and bewilderment of its people.
