Systemic-functional linguistic approaches in stylistic analysis are undoubtedly of great value and importance, for they supply literary analysis with a scientific and practical standard. This paper extends its analysis of the hero Collins’s and the heroine Elizabeth’s discourse on the layer of transitivity, and attempts to achieve a better understanding and fuller appreciation of the literary work.
