Analysis and Comparison on Different Political Speeches from Interpersonal Function Perspective——A Case Study of Hillary Clinton's Race Speech for Presidential Election and Her Farewell Speech

本文从韩礼德的人际功能理论入手,从语气和情态两大系统分析了人际功能在希拉里的两篇政治演讲中的体现并做出比较。这两篇演讲分别是希拉里在佛罗里达州的总统候选人竞选演讲和她退出总统竞选的告别演讲。本文旨在分析语言模式在这两篇目的截然不同的政治演讲中的选择,以及它们和其所要表达的意义之间的联系,从而揭示出演讲者在不同情况下做出的演讲是如何通过语言来和听众建立有效的联系,以达到其不同的演说目的的。

From the perspective of the interpersonal function in Systemic Functional Linguistics,this paper aims to analysis and compare Hillary Clinton’s two political speeches on two aspects： mood and modality.The speeches include her race speech for 2008 American Presidential Election in Florida and her farewell speech.This paper aims to analysis the choices of words in the two political speeches on different purposes and try to explain the relationship between the words and the achievement of interpersonal meaning.In different circumstances,though the speaker makes different political speeches,they can still establish effective linkages with the audience in order to achieve different speech purposes.
