On Historical Limitations & Modern Transformation of Traditional Chinese Harmonious Ethics

中国传统和谐伦理是构建社会主义和谐社会伦理秩序的重要资源。但传统伦理精神固有的内在矛盾性、制度匮乏性和理想人格与现代化的冲突性使得其进行现代转换成为必要。中国传统伦理精神从重德轻理转向德理并重、道德人格从顺从依附转向独立自主、道德约束从个体良知延展到制度公正、德性修养从至圣道德扩大到世俗道德等为现代和谐伦理秩序的构建提供了很好的思路。

Traditional Chinese harmonious ethics is one of the important resources for building the ethical order of the socialist harmonious society. But it is necessary to do modern transformation, due to inherent contradiction, shortage of system and conflicts with ideal personality and modernization, which are inherent in traditional ethical spirit. Chinese traditional ethical spirit turned from emphasis on the moral to emphasis on both moral and rationality. Moral character changed from obedience and attachment into independence, moral constraint extended to system justice from individual conscience. Even moral cultivation expanded to secular morality from saint morality. All of changes provided good ideas for building modern harmonious ethical order.
