With focus on the pattern characteristic and its cultural meanings,this paper arranges and researches the genius and beauty novels＇ preface and postscript.Firstly,I abstracts the preface and postscript＇s content including these critics attributed to ego empathy,stressed novelistic intention and appraised the novel developing history;secondly,the critics expressed the different culture purport about ＂romance＂ and ＂ethic＂ novelistic opinion;then,their gain and loss on the literary criticism,put down to overestimating the uncanny plot and the motley theme.
