1.The definition,characteristics and types of freedomThe so-called freedom mainly refers to that social members can be free from others' restrictions and constraint and do what they want to do,in the range of reasonable laws.This important concept and its behavioral orientation are the important content and symbol of modern human civilization. Freedom has the following important characteristics,namely individuality,independence,rationality,multiplicity,and acceptability.2.The functions of freedom For the modern society,this important concept-freedom,and its behavioral orientation,are of great significance. First,freedom plays a critical role to promote the innovation and development of science and technology as well as ideas.How deep and rich of the ideas are as well as how developed the science is,largely determines the strength of the human imagination and creativity,the height of civilization and the innovative ability of a society and a country.However,the height and richness of ideas and the specific situation of science and technology largely depends on the freedom of ideas. The liberation of idea is the prerequisite for the development of science and technology as well as ideas.What need to be noted is that the important features for science technology and ideas are independence and diversity.Thus,if a society would like to make some improvements in ideas and scientific technology,first of all,the ideological liberation must be carried out,getting rid of blind obedience,deep-rooted superstition and myth as well as all kinds of old ideological framework.Only in this way,can there be a great space for the development of ideas,science and technology.
